The 2017 Scottish Boxing season is upon us and the our biggest Scottish Boxing championship – the BSL Novice Championships – are first on the national tournament calendar.
The 2017 Scottish Novice Boxing Championships will take place over the weekends of 21-22 and 28-29 October 2017 in the World Class Ravenscraig Regional Sports Centre.
Specifically designed for Novice boxers with 0-6 bouts experience, this particular championship is where our progressive athlete pathway begins for all our boxers in terms of Scottish Championship experience. What better way to gain this than to do it in a tournament that has previously attracted over 400 boxers and in excess of 200 bouts contested. This is the tournament in which the dreams and journey of future Scottish Boxing heroes begin.
We are always extremely keen to ensure all our Novice boxers have a fantastic experience during this tournament, but understand they may not always get a get a bout.
As a result, and in line with last years’s event, the 2006 and 2005 School age groups have been amalgamated into a category (B) as have the the 2004 and 2003 School age groups into a category (A).
Please note that BSL reserves the right to combine Youth female years of birth in order to encourage competitive bouts. This will be carried out in discussion with the relevant coaches/boxers involved before doing so.

We wish to avoid having to remove any boxer from this year’s event because of un-disclosed individual physical combat sport experience. As a result, the BSL individual physical combat guidance document is also attached to the 2017 Novice Entry Forms for information.
For the avoidance of doubt, Boxers proven not to have fully or truthfully disclosed previous Individual Physical Combat Sport experience can and will be withdrawn from the tournament at any time.
Only registered Boxers with a maximum of six (6) competitive bouts experience and no more than three (3) recorded Exhibition bouts can enter the BSL Novice Championships in line with the recently published BSL Club & Domestic Guidelines. Entries will be accepted up to 5pm on Friday 06 October 2017.
As always, with a competition of this size and scale, Boxing Scotland is seeking to recruit volunteers and officials from our member clubs to run the event safely and successfully.
If your club will have boxers competing and wish to pledge assistance at this event, please contact marianne.mcmahon@boxingscotland.org with your name, club, role(s) you are can carry out and which day(s) you will be available during the championships – 21,22,28 and 29 October 2017.
Additionally, anyone not registered with a Boxing Scotland affiliate club wishing to volunteer at this event should contact the Boxing Scotland office at events@boxingscotland.org with their name, age, contact details, relevant experience and availability for the championships over one or both weekends.
Please help us in delivering yet another fantastic, safe, well run event and volunteer to help at our 2017 Novice Championships.
