Attention all Members – 2017/2018 Affiliation & Registration details

We hope that all our members have been enjoying their summer holidays and the relative peace and quiet during the ‘down’ period of the season.

With the new season just round the corner however, we would like to inform all members of 2017 – 2018 affiliation costs, changes and updates to our membership system, insurance cover and online member database ahead of the coming season.

1 – 2017/2018 affiliation & registration costs

These will be as follows:

  • £200 for affiliation and £156.02 for Insurance;
  • £20 for new boxer registrations and £10 to re-register a boxer;
  • £5 to register a club cub boxer;
  • £5 to register/re-register each active coach within any club;
  • £5 to register each active working official within any club;
  • £0 to register a recreational/fitness user within any club but BSL will request recreational/fitness membership numbers from each of its member clubs during the 2017/2018 season for monitoring and reporting purposes.

We are now ready to accept affiliation, insurance and registration fees for the 2017 – 2018 season from previously affiliated and new clubs. New and existing Boxer, Coach and officials registrations can also be submitted at the same time for processing.

We would urge all club secretaries to check the accuracy of the data relating to their clubs on the online membership data, ahead of affiliation and the season commencing, to ensure it is completely up to date. The new Official’s registration form will only require completion once – thereafter, annual Working Official re-registration will be dealt with in the same manner as coach re-registrations. The form can be downloaded below for new officials below:

2017-18 Officials Registration Code of Conduct

As part of the revision of our membership scheme, registered Officials will now be granted free entry to National Championships and will be issued with specific BSL branded kit on an annual basis at the point of either registration or re-registration.

2017 – 2018 Insurance

It is important to note that the annual Insurance premium has risen this year by circa £10 per club. This is for the following reasons:

  • There has been another increase in the rate of Insurance Premium Tax. This was confirmed in the last Budget and is effective from 1st June 2017. It increases the current rate from 10% (there was an increase from 9.5% to 10% part way through the 2016 – 2017 period of insurance) to 12%;
  • There has been and will continue to be increases to our competitive and recreational membership;
  • We have an additional Terrorism cover for the 2017 – 2018 season;

Public Liability Insurance for our member clubs is in place to cover their legal liability to the general public. This covers both registered boxers with the club and will now cover “basic” & “recreational” boxers / other users, visitors etc. The widening of our current Personal accident cover to include ‘basic’ & ‘recreational’ users considerably reduces the costs of clubs having to do so on an individual basis.

It is also very important to note that our Insurance Brokers have advised us that we must explicitly state to member clubs that no insurance cover will be afforded for any claims as a result of injuries sustained to any of our registered boxers sparring/competing against British Boxing Board of Control (BBB of C) registered professional boxers.

A copy of the insurance cover summary can be found below for the 2017/2018 season and member clubs planning to affiliate. This will also be contained in the the revised 2017 – 2018 Club Pack which will be available to download and printed from the website on Monday 17 July 2017.

Confirmation & Summary of Cover 2017

Any individual with further queries on insurance coverage should call the BSL office on 0845 241 7016 or email enquiries@boxingscotland.org and we will endeavour to help the best we can.

Online Membership System

Our online affiliation system continues to be a very effective tool with upwards of 90% of our member clubs achieving a minimum of bronze level MORs. We will be proactively targeting the clubs that have not achieved the minimum in coming weeks to provide as much help and support as possible to help them achieve bronze. Assistance will also be provided to the new clubs that have indicated an interest in affiliation this coming season.

Checks have been taking place in the last two weeks to ensure MORs information for our bronze, silver and gold clubs is in order and these clubs will be allowed to proceed with 2017 – 2018 affiliation and individual registration of boxers, coaches and boxers. BSL will process all registrations in the normal manner and input relevant details onto the online membership system. The name of the clubs able to begin the affiliation process will be announced on Monday 17 July 2017.

2017 2018 Club Affiliation Agreement form

Please note that all clubs planning to affiliate must complete a 2017 – 2018 affiliation agreement document and upload it to the online membership system. It would be greatly appreciated if club secretaries can notify the Boxing Scotland officer, either by phone or by email when this has been done. The form can be downloaded below:

We have also added a Boxer matching section to the online membership database which will be live before the season begins. This will be free to all member clubs this coming season in order to allow us to test it to ensure it is effective.

Preferred methods of payment for affiliation are cheque (payable to Boxing Scotland Ltd) or BACS transfer. The office must be contacted on 0845 241 7016 or enquiries@boxingscotland.org to be provided with full details of any BACS transfers being made.

A reminder that all affiliated clubs from the 2016/2017 season can attend the forthcoming AGM in an observer capacity. Clubs wishing to participate (voting or otherwise) in the AGM must pay their affiliation and insurance fees by 31 July 2017 and complete/update their online affiliation (including all required documentation) by no later than 17:00 hours on Friday 11 August 2017.

Checks will be carried out to ensure minimum affiliation requirements have been met, ahead of the AGM,  being held on Sunday 27 August 2017, details of which have been communicated and will be posted to all clubs.

Finally, we would like to take this opportunity to wish all our member clubs, boxers, coaches, officials and volunteers the very best for the coming season.

Best regards

Fraser Walker
