We hope that you are all enjoying your summer holidays and the relative peace and quiet of the ‘down’ period of the boxing season.
Needless to say, the new 2018/2019 season is just around the corner and I would like to provide all our members with a number of important updates and information ahead of the new season beginning, namely:
1 – 2018/2019 club affiliation & individual member registration costs
These will be as follows:
- £200 for each club’s affiliation to BSL and £167.08 for Insurance;
- £20 for new boxer registrations and £10 to re-register a boxer;
- £5 to register a club cub boxer;
- £5 to register/re-register each active coach within any club;
- £5 to register/re-register each active working official within any club;
- £0 to register a recreational/fitness user within any club. BSL will request recreational/fitness membership numbers from each of its member clubs during the 2018/2019 season for monitoring and reporting purposes.
Please note that every individual active coach and official within BSL must register/re-register with BSL on an annual basis and that this will now be closely monitored to ensure compliance. Furthermore, all registered individuals (including volunteers active within affiliated clubs and working ) must now have valid PVG certification. Those who don’t will not be permitted to coach, officiate and/or volunteer.
2 – Equality
We want to make boxing as rewarding as we can for you as members. This means making sure Boxing Scotland can plan for the future as far as possible making sure that the sport is accessible to everyone who wants to take part. It’s also vital that we work as hard as we can to eliminate anything that might prevent people from participating fully especially inequality or any kind of negative discrimination or unfair treatment.
To help us do this we would like to know more about you as members. This information allows us to shape Boxing Scotland to meet the needs of our members but also helps us to remove any barriers that might exist which deter others from participating fully and getting the best possible experience from what the sport has to offer.
It will also be extremely helpful to us in representing Boxing Scotland to others and attracting investment and funding to grow the sport.
From this season onwards, all individuals (Boxers, Coaches, Officials) wishing to register or re-register with BSL will now be required to complete an our “Getting to know you” equality monitoring form which should accompany their registration book/lanyard.
Completed equality monitoring form will be treated in the strictest of confidence. It is strongly recommended that either the club secretary or head coach submit all their club registrations/re-registrations at the same time and include all accompanying equality monitoring forms.
The forms can be downloaded below and will be sent out to clubs by post.
3 – BSL Online Membership System
This has been further developed for the forthcoming season with the introduction of a new online BSL national tournament entry system.
Membership data collection is becoming increasingly important and each club affiliating to BSL this season will be required to provide the following information before being able to affiliate:
- Number of active coaches (male & female) currently within the club;
- Number of active working officials (male & female) currently within the club;
- Number of active committee members (male & female) currently within the club;
- Number of active recreational/fitness boxers using your gym facility (male & female) currently within the club.
4 – BSL Minimum Operating Requirements
These are currently being reviewed and updated.
Once the review is finished, our Regional Development Officers will undertake a series of club visits to assess previously accredited clubs and re-assess Bronze, Silver and Gold status.
5 – 2018/2019 Season
We are now ready to accept affiliation, insurance and registration fees for the 2018 – 2019 season from previously affiliated and new clubs. As intimated beforehand, new and existing Boxer, Coach and Official’s registrations should be submitted at the same time for processing.
The link to the online membership system is:
We would urge all club secretaries to check the accuracy of the data relating to their clubs on the online membership data, ahead of affiliation and the season commencing, to ensure it is completely up to date.
Preferred methods of payment for affiliation are cheque (payable to Boxing Scotland Ltd) or BACS transfer. The office must be contacted on 0845 241 7016 or firstname.lastname@example.org to be provided with full details of any BACS transfers being made.
A more detailed letter containing the above information can be viewed here:
This will be posted out to all the clubs that were affiliated during the 2017/2018 season in coming days.
