Amateur Boxing Scotland are proud to announce that two of our boxers who performed so well in Delhi 2010 have been invited to join the GB Boxing Development Squad for the London Olympics 2012. Josh Taylor and Iain Butcher join the squad for a training camp in Sheffield and Performance Director of the British Amateur Boxing Association, Rob McCracken said The make-up of the squad reflects performances in 2010 .
This is a fantastic achievement for both boxers and testament to the talent emerging on the Scottish Amateur Boxing scene. A key objective of ABS is to develop and identify young boxers who are capable of competing at the highest level. Through the tireless work being done by boxers, coaches and all at club level plus the development and improvements in infrastructure being undertaken by Amateur Boxing Scotland, we are now beginning to see the fruits of all our labour.
On being invited to the GB squad, Josh said
“I am delighted to have been asked to train with and be part of the GB training camp in Sheffield. I see this as an opportunity to show I belong at this level and will do everything I can to get in the Olympic team for London 2012”
Iain added
