BOXING Scotland have selected a 17-strong squad to travel to Serbia for a Youth & Junior Training Camp.
The boxers travelled to the Northern city of Subotica, which sits right beside the border with Hungary, yesterday and will begin the week-long camp today.
The Youth boxers will then stay on an extra week in Serbia as they will compete in the 40th Golden Gloves of Vojvodina Youth Tournament, which will commence on September 14th.
The event is one of the strongest youth competitions in the world, with many countries using it as a preparation tournament for the upcoming IBA Youth World Boxing Championships, which will be held in Alicante, Spain on November 13th-27th.
Countries from five different continents have entered the competition, with boxers from Europe joined by Youth competitors from the likes of India, Thailand, New Zealand and the USA.
Boxing Scotland Performance Director and Joint National Coach Craig McEvoy said: “The rationale behind the Serbia camp is to start with the next generation of potential Commonwealth Games medallists.
“We have Junior Europeans and Youth World Championships coming up later this year, so it will also act as preparation for that.”
