2012 Novices Bigger Than The Olympics!

October 8, 2012 By Paul Coleman

Following the closing date on Friday 05 October 2012, ABS is delighted to announce that it has received an incredible 437 entries (including 17 females) for its 2012 Novice Championships. To put the numbers of entered boxers into perspective, the 2012 London Olympics had 286 competing boxers and the biggest ever previous Novice Championship entry was circa 350.The 2012 Novice Championships will, without doubt, be the largest event ABS has ever hosted and will be one of the biggest ever amateur boxing competitions staged in the UK.

ABS is currently collating the entries and will post the confirmed entry sheets on on its Facebook page and website by no later than Wednesday 10 October 2012. ABS will also post a list of entered boxers who will not compete due to single entries in their weight category.

Boxers in weight categories with single entries wishing to spectate will be required to weigh in to collect their band. This will allow boxers entry for the duration of the Novice Championships to watch the Championships.

Because of the size of the event, ABS would also like to appeal to anyone who would like to volunteer and/or help at the event to contact the office on 0845 241 7016 to register their interest.

The event will be held on the 20th and 21st of October at the;

Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility, O’Donnell Way, Motherwell, North Lanarkshire, ML1 2TZ

An extra overspill day for any bouts not contested by 21 October 2012 has been set aside on 28 October 2012 at the Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility – Details of any bouts scheduled to take place on this date will be communicated on Monday 22 October 2012.

ABS cannot confirm the exact time or day boxers will compete in the championships as this will be dependent on the draw. Announcements will be made during the Novice Championships as to when the boxing will cease each day. Two rings will be in operation throughout the duration of the 2012 Novice Championships.

Clubs will be issued with coaches bands by post and the amount will be determined by how many boxers each club has entered into the championships. Clubs with less than 5 boxers will be issued two, between 5-7 will be issued three and more than 8 will be issued four. These must be worn by coaches on arrival at Ravenscraig Sport Centre and throughout the duration of the Novice Championships.

Weigh-in and medicals will commence at 8.30am sharp on Saturday 20 October 2012 and will conclude at 10.00am.

Tickets are priced at £10 for adults and £7 concessions with two day tickets also available priced £15 adults and £10 concessions all available at the ticket desk.

Doors will open at 11.45am on Saturday 20 October 2012.

ABS looks forward to seeing all boxers, coaches, family members and supporters there for what is sure to be an incredible championships.
