Bout reports from the five contests involving Team Scotland boxers 25 April 2013 received from our coaches out in Bosnia.
Stephen Boyle (SCO) v Grande Claudio (ITA)
From the start of the first round, Stephen was in well in control, frequently catching his Italian opponent with jabs and back hands. His speed and movement were first class and as much as Claudio tried, Stephen had the better of him in every round. This was a great start for Team Scotland.
Connor Hyslop (SCO) v Kremer Justin (NED)
From the bell, Connor took center of the ring and showed the initiative pushing his opponent back which resulted in him coming off the better in the early exchanges. The same pattern was evident throughout the fight with Connor finishing the stronger boxer. Both coaches thought Connor had done enough given he dictated the pace of the entire bout but he ended up losing narrowly 3-2 to the Dutchman.
Sam Ball (SCO) v Arecchia Vincenzo (ITA)
Sam started the bout on the front foot, vigorously working to the head and switching to the body. As a result, he hurt his opponent Vincenzo with a powerful left hook to the body within the first minute. Vincenzo tried to box on the back foot countering but Sam’s aggression and fast feet ccoupled with effective closing down of his opponent at every turn resulted in Vincenzo not coming out for third round.
Paul Lowther (SCO) v Veletic Milos (BIH)
Paul led from the start and quickly took control looking to finish his combinations to his opponent’s body. He was landing some sickening shots, however in the second round, the Bosnian tried to take the fight to Paul. The Scotsman dug deeper and landed a devastating double left hook to Milos’ body followed by a right uppercut that stopped his opponent. This was tremendous performance by Paul.
Paul Burns (SCO) v Roy Korving (NED)
This contest started at a very fast pace with both boxers landing fast combinations to the body and head. Neither boxer wanted to give away ground and it was very hard to separate them with both attacking and defending effectively. The second round was much the same with Paul sustaining a nose bleed but the action continued at a very high tempo. The third round was up for grabs and both boxers gave it their all but in the end, Korving narrowly came away with the victory. Despite the result, this was another great performance by our Boxer.
