2013 Novice Championships

October 15, 2013 By Paul Coleman

novices

With only three days to go, we would like to inform members that a boxer intending to compete in the 2013 Novice Championships has been withdrawn from the competition because of prior Martial Art experience.

Freely available evidence shows that the boxer has partaken in a number of previously undeclared Martial Arts bouts taking them over the Novice boxer threshold of 6 bouts.

Despite the entry form clearly stating only boxers who have competed in 6 or less bouts (including Martial Arts but not including boxing exhibitions) may enter these championships, an entry was still submitted. As a result, Boxing Scotland has been left with no option but to remove the boxer.

We hope that all clubs and coaches appreciate the number one priority in any tournament, especially the Novice Championships, is the boxer’s welfare.

We would encourage anyone that has knowledge of boxers intending to compete in the 2013 Novice Championships who have previous experience in Individual Physical Contact Sports (as per the AIBA Rules effective 23 August 2013), to inform Boxing Scotland staff prior to and during the championships so that appropriate action can be taken.
