Dear Boxers, Coaches and Supporters.
With the preparations in the final stages for the prestigious GB Three Nation Elite Championships on 25 & 26 May 2019, we received some extremely bad news at the end of last week.
The venue for the championships was to be the ever familiar Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility in Motherwell.
However, without notice, North Lanarkshire Leisure decided to cancel Boxing Scotland’s booking (without as much as an apology) in favour of using the facility as a polling station for the forthcoming European elections. The alternative option offered was not to our liking and not suitable for such a prestigious event.
This obviously left us in an incredibly precarious situation and in doubt over whether we could actually stage the event on the dates planned.
Since then negotiations have been ongoing and we are delighted to inform everyone that the state of the art world class Oriam facility (Scotland’s National Sports Performance Centre: https://oriamscotland.com/) based within the grounds of Heriot Watt University on the outskirts of Edinburgh will now host the championships.
We are extremely grateful to the Oriam staff for assisting us so late in the day. Despite the late cancellation being completely out of our control, we can only apologise to those involved in the Championships for any inconvenience caused as a result of the venue change.
