The Cairn Hotel in Bathgate, Scotland hosted the Amateur Boxing Scotland Annual General Meeting on 25 August 2013.
The significance of this particular AGM was the adoption of the new Articles of Association which see Amateur Boxing Scotland take the first step on a journey that will revolutionise boxing across the world.
AIBA, the International Boxing Association and World Governing Body (www.aiba.org), has a vision to unify the governance of Boxing in all its forms having already seen success with the launch of the league based WSB and there is much excitement around the soon to be launched AIBA Professional Boxing (APB).
The Adoption of the new articles will bring Amateur Boxing Scotland in line with the recommended changes to the organisation to ready it to run WSB and APB boxing in the future. A momentous part of the change is the removal of the word amateur from all National Federation names. As of today, Amateur Boxing Scotland will be known as Boxing Scotland and a rebranding exercise will take place soon.
Boxing Scotland’s Chairman Richard Thomas said of the changes “This opens up a number of opportunities for our boxers to progress and develop their career and still be part of the AIBA family. We have had excellent support for this change from all our member clubs across the country. Our staff have spent sometime over the last few months explaining the AIBA vision and the opportunities this will bring for boxers.
