It is with deep regret that we inform you of the passing of Mr Alan Mellis of St Marys ABC
Alan started his association with boxing in the early 1950s as a delegate for the now long defunct Wick ABC.
He went on to be a long standing referee & judge with Wick ABC and then became a founder member of the St Marys ABC of which he was still Club Secretary.
He was a long time council member for the former Scottish Amateur Boxing Association and was appointed as treasurer – a role he undertook for many years. He was also an AIBA Finance Committee member.
Alan acted as Scottish Team manager on a number of occasions – His most notable appointments being the European championships held in the former East Germany in the 1980s and at the 1990 Auckland Commonwealth Games.
Alan will be sadly missed, especially in the Northern District, where he acted as secretary for several years and as treasurer over the last decade
Alan’s funeral will be held on Monday 28 May 2012 at the Aberdeen Crematorium, East chapel at 10-50am. Family and flowers only.
