All female entries for 2023-24 Scottish Championships to be free of charge

May 26, 2023 By Ben Holme

Boxing Scotland are delighted to share that for the 2023-24 season all female boxer entries into national Championships will be free of charge.

This season has seen some incredible steps forward in female boxing in this country, with Niamh Mitchell becoming the first Scottish female boxer ever to win an international Gold medal with success at the European Junior Championships in Italy.

Additionally, Megan Reid became just the third ever female boxer to represent Team Scotland at the Commonwealth Games, while domestically the first ever all-female club show was held last month in Fife, jointly hosted by Bowhill Miners and Doonhamers Boxing Clubs.

The free entry will be for all female boxers entered into the Scottish Development and Golden Gloves Championships over the next 12 months, and will be for the 2023-24 season only.

The boxers will still need to register for theses events following the guidance published by Boxing Scotland at the time in order to be eligible to take up this offer.

This incentive has been made possible due to funding from sportscotland’s Woman and Girls Fund, with Boxing Scotland previously hosting a national female project with funding from the Fund which helped more than 1,200 woman and girls to become involved in the sport for the first time.

As part of our 2023-27 strategy, it is one of our main priorities to continue to grow and develop female boxing in this country and hope that this incentive will encourage more female boxers to enter next season’s Scottish Championships.
