Following an initial meeting in Almaty Kazakhstan at the AIBA Congress, a meeting was held in between ABS Chairman Richard Thomas and all Ireland Director of Boxing Dominic O’Rourke.
The purpose of the meeting was to share knowledge, form a stronger bond and closer working relationship with our Celtic neighbour and a World Class boxing nation. Dominic provided a valuable insight on how Ireland has become such a World power and Dominic was very complementary on ABSs ambitious plans for growth and performance.
Development Commission Head of Coaching and Selection, Danny Lee, had a very productive meeting with Dominic to discuss Schoolboy and Junior residential camps between Ireland and Scotland, in preparation for forthcoming tournaments identified on the 2011 Schoolboy and Junior Calendar.
Danny and Dominic also discussed the establishment of a round robin competition between Scotland, Ireland and Wales which would be rotated round the countries each year.
This would be an exciting addition to the ABS calendar on top of the hugely success Bring Back Boxing Home Internationals.
Matters discussed at the meeting will be put forward to the Board for consideration.
