AIBA has announced the latest amendments to its new Technical Rules, AOB Competition Rules and WSB Competition Rules.
AIBA has decided to separate the Technical Rules and Competition Rules. It is believed that the Technical Rules should be the ones to oversee all the important technical aspects of our sport for all 3 programs, AIBA Open Boxing (AOB), World Series of Boxing (WSB) and AIBA Pro Boxing (APB) without being altered so frequently.
For the Competition Rules, it was decided to identify three (3) separate sets of rules for each of the three (3) programs (AOB, WSB and APB) in order to deliver clear guidelines for each competition which could be amended as required.
In addition, these amended rules are including two newly approved important rules which concern the change of the AIBA Scoring System and the decision to remove headguards for all AOB Men’s Elite Competitions. AIBA is currently working with a company to produce the hardware system of this new scoring system which should be available to National Federations around the June – July period.
Until the new scoring system is provided, for both national and continental level competitions, the manual scoring system is allowed to be used.
In regard to the removal of headguards in all AOB Men’s Elite Competitions, as specified in the AOB Competition Rules, a grace period of holding National Competitions with this new rule until the end of May has been granted so that all National Competitions could be held without headguards starting June 1, 2013. For Continental and International Competitions, the AIBA World Boxing Championships Almaty 2013 to be held in this coming October will be the first competition to apply this new rule.
The AIBA HQ Office will do its best to accommodate any assistance federations may need to follow these newly amended rules and answer any question raised during the course of implementing them in competitions and programs.
