Boxing Scotland launches RESPECT campaign

November 17, 2023 By Ben Holme

Dear Boxing Scotland Family,

With each District in Scotland hosting their respective Youth & Elite Championships over the next week, we would just like to urge all boxers, coaches, officials, club support staff, parents and spectators to show greater courtesy towards each other.

Competitive boxing in Scotland is thriving, with 132 clubs now affiliated with Boxing Scotland – a record high – and our National and District Championships having more boxers entered than ever before.

Conversely, though, the number of Officials has not increased in recent years and in fact is shrinking year on year, with criticism and verbal abuse understood to be a factor.  It has also been noted that there has been an increase in disrespect between Boxers, Coaches and Spectators, both in person and on social media.

This is not what we want to see in Boxing or indeed Sport in general.  We have a varied dedicated membership young and old that deserve the right to Volunteer and compete in a Sport free from all forms of abuse.

A reminder that our boxing membership is a family of volunteers without which our sport couldn’t thrive.

With that in mind Boxing Scotland will be launching a RESPECT ‘4-Corners’ campaign.

The campaign has a featured main slogan: ‘RESPECT – Give Respect, Get Respect’ and will use the RESPECT acronym as below;

R – ESPONSIBLE

E – NCOURAGING

S – UPPORTIVE

P – OSITIVE

E – NABLING

C – ONSIDERATE

T – OLERANT

We would ask all members and spectators to please abide by the principles above. There is Zero Tolerance for any kind of abuse within our fantastic sport.

Let’s all enjoy the boxing this weekend and beyond whilst giving RESPECT to each other, both inside and outside the ropes.

Regards,

Boxing Scotland
