Team Scotland’s Lewis Hay (Red Corner) was boxing against the orthodox Finnish Boxer – Donat Viktorov
In round one, the Finn was looking to counter Lewis with bent arm shots but this style suited Lewis as he drifted in and out of range catching Viktorov with some effective over hand rights. This frustrated Donat by making him miss with the majority of punches he threw although he did have some success with his left hook.
Lewis edged the first round and employed the same tactics in round two but with more volume. This resulted in the Referee giving the Finn a standing count due to a lovely left hook to the body. As the bout progressed Lewis grew in confidence. At the start of round 3, the Finn was still looking to take something from the bout and pushed forward at every opportunity only for Lewis to box on the back foot and landing some nice over hand Right counter punches to his head.
Lewis Hay – Winner by unanimous points
John Docherty (Red Corner) was boxing against Tobis Hagan Mullenberg the orthodox from Denmark
John started off the bout at a good pace landing some good straight one – twos, followed by a lead right hook combinations.
The Dane closed the gap on a number of occasions which made it difficult for John to land clean punches and although John was winning the first round the Dane came forward at every opportunity.
Round 2 saw John find his range better and he adjusted his boxing stance when the Dane came forward landing some nice clean straight shots. One of these prompted the Referee to administer a standing 8 count .
Round 3 saw more of the same from John who thought he should have done better in this contest. However, the Dane was an awkward opponent and never made it easy for John who was the better boxer throughout the contest. It came as no surprise when he was announced the winner by a unanimous points decision.
