Following a meeting of the newly formed Boxing Scotland National Championships Committee, a number of changes to the forthcoming 2025-26 Scottish Championships have been made.
These changes, which have been advised by membership feedback, have been made in order to foster better competition, increase opportunities for female boxers and to make the Championships more manageable and enjoyable for all.
They are as follows;
- The Development Championships to be held in October 2025 will be for Development A category boxers only.
- The Development B category will now be held alongside the C,D,E Development categories at the Development Championships in January 2026.
- The Development Championships in January 2026 will be held over two weekends instead of one, with the weekend dates of 31st January/1st February 2026 added to the previously advertised weekend of 24th/25th January 2026.
- For female boxers only, the Development A category will now be 0-6 bouts. For male boxers this will remain 0-3 bouts.
- For female boxers only, the Development Championships will see two Years of Birth box together at School, Junior and Youth levels (For the Development A Championships 2025 this will be as follows; Youth 2007 & 2008, Junior 2009 & 2010, Schools 2011 & 2012, Schools 2013 & 2014). For male boxers, they will only box within their Year of Birth at Development Championships.
- For Development Championships only, all weight categories will be capped at a maximum of 16 boxers. If more than 16 boxers enter any one particular weight, then an additional category will be made within that weight class to accommodate. For Golden Gloves Championships there will be no cap within weight categories.
- For all Scottish Championships, Friday sessions will no longer be held with Championship dates held exclusively on Saturday’s and Sunday’s.
- For Golden Gloves Championships, boxers will compete together at Youth, Junior and Schools levels as per international standard. (For the 2026 Golden Gloves Championships this will be as follows; Youth – 2008 & 2009, Junior – 2010 & 2011, Schools 2012 & 2013). The younger Schools age categories (2014 and 2015) will box separately at the 2026 Golden Gloves Championships for both male and female boxers.
All changes were agreed unanimously by the Boxing Scotland National Championships Committee.
The Committee was formed earlier this summer following an open application process, with two representatives – one Coach and one Official – from each District on the Committee and chaired by a Boxing Scotland staff member.
