Last week saw a select group of both Youth and Senior boxers travel down to the home of Army Boxing in Aldershot to conduct a pre-Brandenburg Cup Training Camp. Also in attendance were a select Youth team from Wales and various boxers from throughout the south of England for the Sparring Phase of the camp.
The first session took place in the Army Boxing Centre, and much to the surprise of the boxers a few celebrities arrived to join in on the session! Former World Champion Barry McGuigan, Cricketer Freddie Flintoff and Commonwealth Champion Carl Frampton trained alongside the team and took the time to chat to the lads and get some photos taken.
Throughout the week the team carried out various sessions both in the gym and externally, including track sessions and swimming. The sparring phase proved to be second to none, with all the boxers conducting good quality rounds with very experienced boxers from England and Wales.
A big thank-you must go to Martin Anthony (Head Coach British Army Boxing Team) and the Garrison Sergeant Major (Aldershot) for facilitating the camp. The facilities proved to be first class, with all the team living in the new Army Z-Type accommodation comprising of single rooms and en-suite facilities. The catering department also provided top standard food during every meal, with a wide range of healthy options ideal to re-energise the boxers during the intense training programme.
All the boxers thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and even managed to meet some celebrities on the way!
