BSL Coaching Course Level 1
Back in March 2016, Boxing Scotland made history by delivering the UK’s first Nationally recognised Coaching Course, which was accredited by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA).
Since then, our Coach Education programme has grown from strength to strength, with both the number of attendees and courses being delivered surpassing our initial expectations.
The following statistics demonstrate the huge success that our Level 1 course has been:
• 17 courses delivered (from March 2019)
• 329 individuals passed
• Increase in Female participation – 288 Males & 41 Females passed
• Courses delivered in all 3 Districts
SQA External Verification (EV)
As part of SQA’s Quality Assurance Protocol, we have received 2 separate EV’s since the delivery of our first Level 1 Course, with the 2nd resulting in a significant amount of remedial work in relation to Candidate portfolios and our Practical Marking Assessment system/matrix.
Level 1 – CERTIFICATION
Unfortunately, as a result of both the unprecedented growth of the programme and the EV Remedial action, the certification process has been put on hold since Level 1 Course No 14, which was held back in September 2018.
We can only apologise for this delay – on a positive note, we have now worked hard into putting a new certification strategy in place which will ensure successful candidates receive certification within 1 month of passing the course.
Our aim is to process all outstanding Level 1 Certificates by 31st August 2019, once all remedial work has been passed.
Level 2 Course
In addition to our Level 1, a Level 2 course was also designed in alignment with the SQA framework, with the first course being delivered back in December 2017. Highlights from our Level 2 course are as follows:
• 4 courses delivered (since December 2017)
• 61 individuals passed
• Courses delivered in Bridgeton, Dundee and Aberdeen
• Up to date Course Content, including Video Analysis, Cut Treatment & Professional Hand wrapping
Level 2 – CERTIFICATION
All successful candidates thus far will receive a National Governing Body (NGB) Certificate by 31st August 2019.
As previously stated, our Coach Education programme has been a huge success, with every course delivered receiving 100% positive feedback from attendees.
However, as outlined within this letter, there are definite Areas for Improvement (AFI) that require immediate action, in particular, the Certification process. It is our absolute priority to ensure all outstanding certificates are sent to candidates by 31st August, and the new certification strategy is in place for all future courses.
On Thursday 04th July, we look forward to publishing our next round of Level 1 and Level 2 courses, AND we will be publishing information regarding the delivery of our highly anticipated LEVEL 3 course, with the first course scheduled to be delivered in that last quarter of 2019.
