Callum Johnston – Latest Blog

October 11, 2010 By Paul Coleman

Sorry I’ve not blogged for a couple of days –  I’ve been busy with fights etc and the times have made it hard for me to get to a computer. Firstly how proud am I to be Captain of this team they are all awesome – Three medals for Amateur Boxing Scotland is a great achievment and alot of the credit goes to the two coaches who have been amazing from the start :-).

Iain Butcher fractured his thumb in his contest with Irelands Paddy Barnes and will be out of action for 6 weeks which is a shame for the lad, but he will be back with a bang.

Joe Ham had a tough contest against Namibia, but was boxing very well with a good lead on points. He took a couple of heavy shots and just lost out but what a warrior.
He suffered alittle bit of concusion but everything is ok and he is 100% healthy 🙂

Aston showed real class in his performance against England’s Callum Smith but just fell alittle behind on points. He just missed out on a medal reaching the 1/4 finals but he will improve on this and be back better and stronger and will medal in glasgow 2014 🙂

Stephen Simmons had boxed brilliantly in his first two contests which i think left him a wee bit tired as he had an hard 1/4 final against the Canadian. He didnt box near to his best in the semi finals but he has still done himself, the team and Scotland proud with winning a bronze medal well done big Simbo 🙂

Josh Taylor , what can i say four fights four wins guarantees him the silver medal and looking to make it a gold in the final when he’s up against Englands Tom Stalker who is a real class act himself – this looks to be a cracker. Josh is still only a young kid with a bright future ahead of him.

I’m pleased to say im also going to be in the final with three good wins and a guaranteed silver medal, but still going to be looking to make it a gold 😉

There is s a massive buzz in the boxing camp and we are all behind each other, it’s been an amazing experience and feel we have done ourselves and Scotland proud.
These medal wins have cost Mike and Tony a few quid too as they told us before the competition we would get money off them for medals 🙂
Colin McEwen has now got to shave his head to a mohawk and dye it blue for the finals – We can’t wait to see this happen and it will be good television people.

The whole Scotland team tower has been one big buzzing team and everyone we have met have been great people and showed support to us and same back. The medical team are great
and the physio room is the place to be for the banter. A big thank you to Sandi our personal physio she is amazing and has been there for us day and night. Also our Doctor George who has showed great support and been there every step of the way. Without these kind of people helping us with injuries etc we wouldn’t be bringing home the medals we are so a massive thanks to them.

Over and out

Callum
