Cashback Boot Camp – Final Report

July 20, 2012 By Paul Coleman

Following on from the adventure the youngsters experienced scaling Ben Nevis yesterday, all the Camp were treated to a lie in today on Day 4 (well, not being woken at 6am!).

After a welcoming full cooked breakfast, a morning of recreation allowed the youngsters to rest the legs and chill out after the efforts of the previous day’s activities.  Most of the youngsters decided to enjoy the glorious weather the camp woke up to, commenting on why the weather couldn’t have been nicer when they were trekking up Ben Nevis!

Once the chill out period came to an end, it was time to get the training gear back on for the team competition – a healthy rivalry between the clubs was going to ensure a 100% effort from all.

The competition itself comprised of various ‘themed’ team sprints, including ‘chain gang’ where the team captain sprinted out then returned to link with the next team member – this then continued until all the team linked together for the final sprint.  The competition then concluded with the ‘Grand National’, where the team members sprinted out and went to ground while the rest of the team jumped over the ‘fence’; this then continued until they reached the finish line.

Day 5, the final day of the Boot Camp, will see the Academy boxers being put through their paces in the gym for the final session of the week.  This will then be followed by a final clean out of the bunkhouse, with all the youngsters putting their hand to a bit of housework!

At approximately 11.30am the Boot Camp will officially end as all the Academy Boxers are due to depart on the Coach back to the comfort of their own home.

Amateur Boxing Scotland would like to personally congratulate all of the 26 Cashback boxers that have attended the Camp.  Without doubt each individual in attendance has challenged and pushed themselves to unprecedented levels.  The tightknit dynamic of the whole group also projects the discipline and respect the sport of Amateur Boxing promotes in our youngsters.

The Cashback programme is both a positive and highly rewarding initiative for Amateur Boxing Scotland to be involved in, and a big thank-you must go to all the boxers, coaches and volunteers who have played a part in its success thus far – long may it continue.
