ABS is pleased to announce that the final Cashback club assessments have now taken place with Academy boxers from Meadowbank ABC, Leith Victoria ABC and Nith Valley ABC displaying their boxing talents in front of friends and family.
On Friday 09th November boxers from Meadowbank ABC and Leith Victoria ABC joined together on a club ‘integration’ night held in Meadowbank ABC showing off their skills and drills learned during the free Academy sessions. Integrated sessions such as this make really positive waves throughout the Cashback programme as part of the initiative is to break down the ‘territorial’ barriers between young people in our towns and cities. The club assessment saw around 25 Academy boxers from different areas of Edinburgh come together and work as a team to pass their assessment.
The talent on display has to be praised and a big thank-you must go to the club coaches for all their hard work and dedication in the Academy so far; Meadowbank ABC – Mark Geraghty and Stewart Ferguson; Leith Victoria ABC – Marc Skinner.
The last club assessment of the year then took place on Monday 12th November in Dumfries at Nith Valley ABC, with no fewer than 19 Academy boxers in attendance recruited from the local community by club coach Mark Dawson.
For the family and friends in attendance, Mark took the boxers through a sample boxing session demonstrating all the skills and drills the boxers have been carrying out in order to build up their individual skill base. The club were then assessed as per the Academy assessment criteria – and all passed with flying colours! Again, a big thank-you must go to Nith Valley ABC coach Mark Dawson for all his effort and involvement in bringing the Cashback Academy to Dumfries.
