Development (A&B) Championships 2022 -Survey Results

December 21, 2022 By Ben Holme

Dear Members,

Boxing Scotland are happy to share the results of our recent membership survey following last month’s Development (A & B) Championships.

The responses were overwhelming positive, as we successfully held our second largest competition ever with 735 entries, which saw more than 100 boxers crowned National Development champion over the course of two weekends.

The Championships are a major undertaking for a small team, with the competition having more entries than major international boxing events, such as the Commonwealth Games.

But we were delighted that, whilst an extremely busy six days of action, that event went ahead without any major problems.

Comments from the survey included;

“Brilliant competition and the categories made it a lot more competitive.”

“The event is well run and organised and the venue is ideal.”

In total, more than three quarters of all respondents said the event overall was good or great, that communication leading up to the event and on the day was good or great and stated that the venue was good or great.

That being the case, there is always room for improvement and we will take under consideration some of the suggestions that members listed for future competitions.

With regards to our own internal review of the competition, we are very much aware that an event of this size placed a strain on the Officials who volunteered for the event.

Without these key volunteers the competition would not be able to run and we are extremely grateful for their time and effort across the two weekends.

Moving forward, we will be looking for clubs to provide more Officials for these events to help reduce the workload on those who do volunteer, and to also allow us to have five judges on each ring instead of three.

If anyone is interesting in volunteering as an Official, please e-mail competitions@boxingscotland.org in the first instance, and your enquiry will be forwarded to the relevant individual.

If the number of Officials who volunteer remain the same, we may have to look into placing a cap on the number of boxers who enter our National Championships, which we do not want to have to do.

Looking to 2023, our next National Championships will be the Development (C, D & E) Championships, which will take place on the weekend of 27th – 29th January at Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility in Motherwell.

This competition will be open for boxers who have had the following number of bouts;

C category – 7-10 bouts.

D category – 11-15 bouts.

E category – 16-20 bouts.

The entry forms for this competition will be released in early January.

Regards,

Boxing Scotland
