After the fantastic success of the Inaugural R&J Workshop held in the summer of 2010, ABS staged its second R&J Workshop on 20 February 2011 at the Windlestrae Hotel in Kinross.
The day commenced with an address from ABS Ltd Chairman, Richard Thomas, who touched on the importance of Referees & Judges, adherence to AIBA rules and procedures and improving our International standing as a National Federation. He also noted the recent fantastic achievements of the ABS 2010 Commonwealth Games team, the hugely successful Bring Back Boxing Home Internationals and acknowledged the great work of our dedicated Volunteers.
The Chairman also announced that George Brown, of Four Isle ABC, is now a one – star AIBA R&J
The Chairman concluded his address by noting ABS has seen much change in the last 24 months and we need to be active agents for further change and Modernisation which was met with rapturous applause.
The event was fantastically organised and the morning session provided ABS with the opportunity to update OICs, new and existing R&J of the AIBA Technical and Competition Rules. This promoted some very useful and interactive discussion over the course of the day. Our AIBA three star Referee Andy Caulfield provided an up-to-date view of International Tournaments and the expectations of AIBA for Referees and Judges to progress to AIBA level.
The day then split into three sessions with a specific OIC seminar, a DVD presentation and AIBA exam for new recruits and the AIBA exam for existing R&J who had not sat it. At the OIC meeting, Mr Jim Robertson of Four Isle ABC, was given the role of OIC for the forthcoming Scottish Championship events at the Time Capsule in Coatbridge. Congratulations to both George and Jim. Special thanks must go to Abby Hills from the R&J commission who assisted with the organisation of the event throughout the day.
Attendance on the day was extremely encouraging with 36 officials present. Even more encouraging was the substantial number of new R&J recruits there 15 in total. ABS would like to offer its congratulations to all who passed the AIBA exam and details are below:
