TEAM Scotland will compete in our first overseas international tournament of 2024 this week as four Scots have travelled to Spain’s annual Boxam tournament
The International Boxing Association (IBA) sanctioned event held in Benidorm, La Nucia will get underway from tomorrow, running until Saturday 3rd February.
Rob Roy’s Isa Akram (60kg) has travelled to southern Spain just over a week after capturing the inaugural Boxing Scotland Gold Series Lightweight championship at ‘Clash On The Clyde’ in Glasgow.
Byron’s Sonny Kerr (67kg) also competed at ‘Clash On The Clyde’ and will look to continue his bright start to 2024, where he won his first senior contest against France’s Ramzy Mekhalef via unanimous decision, as the 18-year-old enters his first Elite competition.
Robert McNulty (86kg) makes up the contingent that have travelled with Boxing Scotland, while fellow Renfrewshire Boxing Club member Aaron Cullen (54kg) has travelled as part of a 13-strong GB Boxing squad, for his first tournament as a member of the GB Boxing Academy squad.
The competition is the second international tournament of 2024 for Scotland after Doghouse Boxing Club’s Alan Perrie competed at the ‘World Boxing’ backed World Boxing Cup: GB Open tournament in Sheffield last month.
Boxing Scotland remains affiliated to both the International Boxing Association (IBA) and the newly created World Boxing.
