Funding Opportunities For ABS Affiliated Clubs

October 8, 2012 By Paul Coleman

ABS is pleased to announce that it has recently met with sportscotland to discuss the many funding opportunities that may be available to ABS affiliated clubs.

To assist with this, ABS Coach & Club Development Officer, James Docherty, will actively work with two clubs per month to develop funding applications.

In order for James to fully endorse your clubs funding application, clubs will be required to undergo an ABS visitation, if they have not already done so through the ABS Club Focus visits.

Clubs seeking to apply for investment, should contact James Docherty in the first instance to discuss funding needs and to identify the most relevant investment prorgramme to apply for. To allow ABS to fully endorse and support funding applications, clubs will be required to undergo an ABS visitation, if they have not already done so,  through the ABS Club Focus visits.

The three main funds clubs can apply for are;

1 – Sportsmatch

This scheme is designed for sports clubs and other community organisations. It matches commercial sponsorship with Scottish Government funding on a £ for £ basis. For example, if a sponsor pledged £5000 or £5000 worth of equipment for the club to use, the Sportsmatch Fund would match the £5000 pledged by the sponsor, provided the clubs  funding application was successful

2 – Awards for All

Awards for All gives grants of between £500 and £10,000 for people to take part in art, sport and community activities, and projects that promote education, the environment and health in the local community.

We can fund a wide range of activities through the programme and want to support projects that meet our outcomes.

The outcomes for Awards for All Scotland are:

  • People have better chances in life.
  • Communities are safer, stronger and more able to work together to tackle inequalities.
  • People have better and more sustainable services and environments.
  • People and communities are healthier.

Applicants need to demonstrate that the proposed development is for the public good and will provide equitable opportunities for increased sports participation by the community at local level.

Applicants will also need to demonstrate what links they have established/will establish with the sports programmes and/or initiatives operated by the local authority, national governing body for sport and their associates/partners.
