Latest Update from Mike Keane, ABS Peformance Co-ordinator, in Liverpool;
Josh Taylor competed against Martin Ward of England this afternoon and was subject to some ‘erratic’ scoring. Josh was down 7-1 after two rounds when it should have been much closer . Josh ended up getting beaten 11-5.
An ankle injury picked-up in Fridays semi-final meant Martin Ward was unable to compete against Liverpools Tom Stalker in the 60Kg category, so Josh stepped-in to take on Stalker in a re-match of the recent Commonwealth Games final. In a non-Championship contest, Josh looked to be on the way to avenging his defeat in Delhi before a final round rally from Stalker edged him to a 10-9 victory.
Jason Easton faced Bradley Saunders in the 64Kg final stopping with Saunders stopping Jason in the second round. In the 81Kg, Obed Mbwakango secured victory for GB Boxing with a first round stoppage against Sean Finney. Tommy Philiben boxed against Callum Smith and lost 10-1 in the semi finals of the 69kg weight category.
