INTRODUCING……..Discovery Boxing Club

May 25, 2023 By Ben Holme

DUNDEE, known as the City of Discovery, has a newly affiliated boxing club with the aptly named Discovery Boxing Club.

The club, which will be run by Head Coach Hammy Ahmed, has completed all of the necessary affiliation paperwork and had a club visit conducted earlier this week with North Regional Development Officer Ben Holme and North District Secretary Norman Watt.

The club, which takes its name after a formerly existing club from Dundee, is based at Huntly Square in the Craigie area of the city and will officially come on board for the beginning of the 2023-24 season.

Hammy, who has been involved in the sport for many years as a coach with Dundee University and others, said: “It is great and I am looking forward to it.

“I had always wanted to do it and it was now or never I guess.

“Short-term I want to get as many boxers trained up for the Development Championships at the end of the year and then take it from there.

“I have got a few who are more advanced, so hopefully I will spend with them and win some medals and trophies.

“The club was here years ago as Discovery and we are actually in the same premises, although it has been refitted out.

“So we thought we would keep the original name of the club and take it from there.”
