Josh Taylor, the only Scottish boxer out of seven males representing Team GB in the 2012 London Olympics, has progressed to the top 16 after securing a comfortable victory against Brazil’s Robson Conceicao, winning 13-9.
The result was never in doubt with Josh always ahead – 3-2 in round one, 9-6 in round two and 13-9 at in round three.
Josh, boxing out of the blue corner, capitalised on his first round lead with a series of combinations, left hooks, great movement and a tight guard in the second round, despite being caught with the odd shot to lead by three points.
In the third Josh held it together well and built on his lead with a hard left shot early on. His Brazilian opponent came forward and Josh defended well keeping Conceicao at bay with an effective jab.
Final Score 13-9 to Josh Taylor who progesses to the final sixteen to face former World champion Domenico Valentino from Italy on Thursday 02 August 2012 at 8.30pm.
Congratulations to Josh from all at ABS and the Scottish amateur boxing community.
