Josh Taylor narrowly misses out on a slot in the 2012 Olympic Quarter-finals

August 3, 2012 By Paul Coleman

Lightweight Josh Taylor unfortunately became the first British boxer to go out of the 2012 Olympic tournament losing 15-10 in a valiant effort against the highly  experienced former World champion and number two seed Domenico Valentino, of Italy.

It was a tough bout for Josh who gave it everything he had against Valentino losing out by one point in the first round (4-3), drawing in the second round (4-4), with the Italian showing his experience to win the third round 7-3. Final score 15 – 10 to Valentino.

Despite being disappointed, Josh gave a great account of himself in his first ever Olympics and can be rightly proud of his performances against World class opposition.
