Scottish Light-Heavy Weight Champion, Brian Forsyth was the last of the Scottish boxers to compete in the Belgrade Winner Tournament. Brian was up against the German Olympic qualifier and WSB boxer, Enrico Koling, and didn’t disappoint with his efforts. He started the round well, and was very composed, considering this was his first International contest. Brian was defending very well, and landed some good shots to body and head, but this wasn’t enough to give him the lead, and he went in 2-1 down after the first round. Brian started on the front foot again in the second and tried to take the contest to the German, but was fidning it difficult against the vastly experienced WSB boxer. As much as he tried to put the presuure on, Brian couldn’t outscore his opponent, and the round finished 2-1, the same as the first, to take the overal score to 4-2 Koling. A big effort was needed in the third round, and Forsyth gave it his all, but the experience and pace of the German boxer were starting to come through. Brian pushed Koling all the way to the last bell, and, although he eventually lost 9-4, he can be immensly proud of his effort in what was his first full International, at a very tough tournament, against a very difficult opponent.
National Coach, Mike Keane, praised Brian’s effort and his composure for someone with practically no experience of boxing at this level.
Well done Brian.
