Latest result from Belgrade Winner Tournament

May 4, 2012 By Paul Coleman

Amateur Boxing Scotland had three boxers competing in Belgrade yesterday.

First up was Scottish Light-Welter Weight Champion Lewis Benson, boxing against Australian, Olympic qualifier, Jeff Horn. Lewis had a relatively slow start to the contest, and went in 4-0 down at the end of the first round. National Coach, Mike Keane reckoned Lewis had scored one or two points in the round, but the Judges saw it differently. Lewis picked the pace up a bit in the second round and landed some good scoring back hands, to lead the round 3-2, but was still 6-3 down overall, and that’s how the second round finished. It would require a big effort in the third round to turn the contest in Benson’s favour, but his efforts in the second round seemed to take it out of him. Lewis gave his all in the third round, but could not make up the points deficit and eventually lost the bout 11-4. A great effort from Lewis on his first full interntional contest.
