The draw for the Olympic qualifying tournament in Trabzon, Turkey took place on Sunday 15 April 2012. 211 boxers from 44 nations are taking part, all hoping to qualify for the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Lochend ABC’s Josh Taylor, attempting to qualify for theGB Olympic Team slot in the 60kg weight category, was drawn against Miroslav Serban of the Czech Republic and comfortably won his first bout last night (Sunday 15th April 2012). Mike Keane, ABS National Coach, has provided a report;
It was a fantastic start for Josh and Scotland here in Trazbon.
Boxing well within his capabilities, Josh took an early lead in round one landing with some nice straight back hands. His hand speed was looking good and the Czech boxer had no answer to it trying to close Josh down but getting caught in the way in with the long back hand.
With the Czech boxer behind by 5-2 after the first round he pushed forward throwing everything at Josh. This put Josh out of his stride a little but he still managed to keep his lead by 8-5 after the second roudn.
The Czech boxer had put so much effort into the second round it was Josh’s turn to put the pressure on and run out a worthy winner by 15-6. He now boxes the Latvian Artjoms Ramlavs who had received a bye on Tuesday (17th April 2012) afternoon.
