In what would lead to a very unfortunate conclusion for Team Scotland’s slick 52kg operator Ryan Ball, the Scotsman was edging towards victory in his 2nd preliminary contest, for it to be cruelly taken away by an injury preventing Ryan from finishing the contest.
The 1st round was a chess match for the most part, with a clash of styles element mixed with 2 boxers in great form. The taller looked to draw the Scotsman into range, but it looked like Ryan was getting the lion’s share of the exchanges with bent arm punches at close range.
Ryan started fast going into the 2nd, but unfortunately had now started to feel the injury which would cruelly put an end to his positive looking campaign in the competition. Landing cleanly with some significant blows, a clinch midway through the round proved too much for the game Scotsman to endure, with the pain wrenching neck injury inflicting too much damage for Ryan to continue.
Nothing could be said to console the utterly disappointed Scotsman, fortunately however after receiving medical attention at ringside and hospital the injury was treated with no serious injury diagnosed.
