Ryan was up next for Team Scotland, locking horns with the tall Bezbabcenvo in the first contest of the evening session on Day 1. The height difference was even more magnified as the 2 boxers met in the middle of the ring, however Ryan’s slick footwork right from the off managed to disrupt any advantage the Moldovan would have.
The Scotsman drifted in and out of range, patiently closing the gap on his opponent as Bezbabcenvo negatively retreated on the back foot. It became very apparent the Moldovan’s favoured defence was to take the half step back, looking to draw Ryan in to his range, however the slick Scotsman was to clever to fall for this trap, executing slick pattern of movement so as to not leave himself exposed after attacking.
Ryan was landing with accurate leading punches, however as the bout matured the Moldovan retreated even more, so the Scotsman had to add a 2nd phase of attack to land with more significant combinations. Bezbabcenvo would not take any risks whatsoever, trying to make it as awkward as Ryan was getting more and more into his stride as the bout went on.
Finishing with some quality single straight and bent arm punches, Ryan was sending a message out to all the 52kg campaigners as he landed cleanly with slick individual flair.
There could be only one winner at the conclusion, with the Team Scotland 52kg representative starting his championship campaign with a convincing victory.
Winner by unanimous decision: Ryan Ball SCO
