The large Turkish contingent were extremely vocal as this bout got underway, however it didn’t take long for Willie to silence Damir’s support with constant barrages of accurate punching and slick movement.
The contest had only just begun when the Scotsman unleashed an energy sapping ‘bolo’ punch to the sternum of the come forward Turk, clearly causing some distress to the previously fired up Damir. From then on, Willie controlled the contest in every aspect, with eye catching flair and rhythm but above all accurate punching with both hands.
In desperation, the Turk began to continuously infringe the rules as the bout matured, both with illegal use of the head and clinching at every opportunity. However Willie kept his composure and refused to be drawn into a messy affair. Midway through the 2nd round, as the Turk came in low with the head again, Willie corrected the feet and neatly changed his punching platform to land a sickening hook bang on target, forcing the referee to issue a standing 8 count on the rocked Turk.
With Team Scotland now voicing their support, the Scotsman went from strength to strength going into the last round. Utilising sound evasive action with both the feet and torso, Willie continuously exploited the gaps he was creating in his wavering opponents guard. Once again the Scotsman landed a wicked bent arm punch which nearly sent the Turk into orbit, forcing the referee to issue a standing 8 count for the second time. As the final bell sounded, Team Scotland applauded an emphatic win over the renowned tough Turks, with the fired up Scotsman securing the last 2 rounds by a score of 10 – 8 on the judges score cards.
