Scotland v Ireland International Live Results
The boxing is underway at the latest of our Home International events which is a Junior and Schoolboy event between some of Scotland’s and Ireland’s best Schoolboy and Junior talent.
With 16 bouts scheduled for this afternoon and some fantastic action ahead, we are pleased to bring you the results as they happen:
36kg Schoolboy – Bout 1 – Alex McCormack (SCO) v Reece Parchment (IRE)
Round 1 – Alex was up against a taller opponent with a much longer reach. From the start, Alex tried to get inside with combinations, but was getting caught on his way in. The Scot did manage to find the target more towards the end of the round, but there was little to separate both boxers in the first round.
Round 2 – Alex came out with much more urgency this round and took the contest to his opponent from the start. There were some excellent exchanges between both boxers, and another very close round, which was hard to call
Rounds 3 – Round three was a very busy but scrappy round, with both boys giving their all to win. The final decision would depend on outcome of this 3rd round. After the final bell, it was still very hard to pick a winner, but the Judges picked McCormack of Scotland by majority.
Winner Alex McCormack (SCO) MAJORITY
48kg Schoolboy – Bout 2 – Ethan Cowie (SCO) v Pierce O’Leary (IRE)
Round 1 – Straight from the first bell there was a clash of styles with the Southpaw Scottish counter puncher up against the more aggressive orthodox boxer from Ireland. A hard round to score due to lack of clean punches.
Round 2 – O’Leary started on the front foot and found the target right away with a couple of fast flurries. This was the pattern for the whole round, as Cowie struggled to find his range with his jab. Good round for O’Leary.
Round 3 – A scrappy 3rd round, with both boxers falling to the canvas at one point. With both boxers giving their all to win, the clean punches were few and far between in this round. A very hard round to score.
Winner: Pierce O’Leary (IRE) UNANIMOUS
42kg Junior – Bout 3 – Dylan Arbuckle (SCO) v Dean Loftus (IRE)
Round 1 – A fast paced first round with the two tall rangey boxer’s chosing to box at mid range and switch head to body. Loftus was more successful in the early part of the round, but once Arbuckle found his range, he came right back into it. Close round.
Round 2 – Another action packed round with Arbuckle forcing the pace right from the bell. Loftus was up for the challenge though and traded at mid to close range with both boxers showing their abilities with some excellent exchanges. Another very close round.
Round 3 – Arbuckle again forced the pace right from the start of the round and took the bout to his opponent. Loftus again matched the attacks and the pace, but the Scot was landing the cleaner shots. Arbuckle looked to be winning the round clearly, but a late flurry in the last 20 seconds from the Irishman may have caught the Judges eyes.
Winner: Dean Loftus (IRE) MAJORITY
44kg Junior – Bout 4 – Kieran Smith (SCO) v Conor Quinn (IRE)
Round 1 – Kieran Smith was up against a taller opponent, who looked very comfortable on the back foot, staying just out of Kieran’s reach and successfully countering any attacks.
Round 2 – This round saw Quinn grow in confidence to dominate the centre of the ring and the pace of the bout. As much as Kieran tried to get close and land, the Irish boxer was catching him on his way in with dazzling combinations. Clearly a very talented boxer for his age.
Round 3 – The last round saw Kieran try to force the pace to claw the bout back, but this played right into Quinn’s hands. With the clever Irishman able to draw Kieran in and catch him with fast counters. A great effort from Kieran, but up against a very good Irishman.
Winner: Conor Quinn (IRE) MAJORITY
46kg Junior – Bout 5 – Neil McCubbin (SCO) v Luke O’Shea (IRE)
Round 1 – A cagey start from both boxers, sussing each other out with McCubbin trying to take the bout to the taller Irishman, but not quite finding his range. Not much in the way of clean shots landed and a close round to call.
Round 2 – Again McCubbin decided to force the pace of the contest, but with much more success this round. Although he got caught occasionally on his way in, McCubbin was still finding the target with his own shots, A good round for the Scotsman.
Round 3 – Similar aggressive tactics from McCubbin this round, saw him take it to the Irishman, in search of the win. The clever O’Shea kept his composure though and was landing some good combinations as Neil tried to get close. An action packed 3rd round with O’Shea coming out just on top.
Winner: Luke O’Shea (IRE) UNANIMOUS
52kgs Junior – Bout 6 – Harry Carlin (SCO) V James McGivern (IRE)
Round 1 – Harry was up against a tall, rangey, southpaw opponent, who was glad to stay just out of range and catch Harry on his way in. The Irishman proved very elusive and hard to hit, but Harry kept at it and landed a couple of good shots towards the end of the round.
Round 2 – With the Irishman now feeling he had his nose in front, he was happy to draw Carling in and catch him with combinations. As much as the Sctolsman tried to force the pace, the Irishmans tactics seemed to be working. A big last round needed from Harry.
Round 3 – A brave effort from Harry in the 3rd round, as he tried to get back into this contest, but the Irishman proved too slick with his movement and counter punching. 10 out of 10 for effort from Harry Carlin, but he was up against a very talented opponent in McGivern.
Winner: James McGivern (IRE) UNANIMOUS
53kgs Junior – Bout 7 – Steven Knox (SCO) V Ryan Green (IRE)
Round 1 – A very cagey start with both boxers sussing out each other’s styles and waiting for the other to commit. The Irishman landed the first clean punches of the round, but Knox came back with a few good shots in the closing seconds. A very even round.
Round 2 – Another close round where both boxers tried to draw their opponent in and catch him, but with neither too willing to commit themselves, this 2nd round didn’t see many punches landed. Another hard round to score.
Round 3 – The third round was just as tactical as the first two, but with much more action. With both boxers knowing a big 3rd round could win this one, they were both up for the battle. There were some excellent close to mid-range exchanges, with both boxers landing good shots. Another very difficult round to call.
Winner: Steven Knox (SCO) MAJORITY
54kgs Junior – Bout 8 – Joe Murray (SCO) V Martin Collins (IRE)
Round 1 – Another tactical contest with Murray up against the taller southpaw boxer. A cagey start from both boxers soon turned into a success story for Murray, who was landing with some very heavy shots. A crisp over hand right stopped the Irishman in his tracks and saw Murray gain in confidence to finish the round strongly.
Round 2 – With the Irishman feeling he was a round down, he tried to force the pace in round two, but without much success. Murray stood his ground and caught Collins with some excellent jabs on his way in, as well as combinations in close.
Round 3 – With the Irishman now chasing the contest, Murray decided to box on the back foot and was just as successful. As the taller Collins was coming in, he was being caught with straight rights to the body and some excellent combinations from Murray.
Winner: Joe Murray (SCO) UNANIMOUS
55kgs Junior – Bout 9 – Mark Brown (SCO) v Roy Sheehy (IRE)
Round 1 – A good start for the shorter, southpaw Scotsman against his taller orthodox opponent, landing some excellent back hands and right hooks. That pattern continued throughout the round, as the Irishman struggled to keep Brown at bay.
Round 2 – Brown started round 2 on the front foot again, but the tall Sheehy seemed to find his timing this round and was catching the Scot with good combinations on his way in. The Irishman was clearly busier in this round and looked to have evened up the contest with one round a piece. All down to round 3.
Round 3 – With both boxers sensing a big last round would win this, a the tempo was high right from the bell. Brown landed some excellent backhands and hooks in the first minute before Sheehy responded with some excellent combinations. Another very close round, with Sheehy picking up the pace in the last 20 seconds, which has been a feature of the Irish boxers today and forced the Judges into a split decision. It wasn’t enough though, as Brown took the split decision.
Winner: Mark Brown (SCO) MAJORITY
55kgs Junior – Bout 10 – John Stevenson (SCO) V Michael McDonagh (IRE)
Round 1 – A tentative start by both boxers as they tried to draw each other in. Neither boxer was too keen to commit and apart from a couple of flurries, not much to separate both boys in the first round.
Round 2 – Much more pace to this round than the first, but not much in the way of clean punches landed. Both boxers had some success with single shots, but neither really caught the eye as a clear winner. Very close contest.
Round 3 – Another very close round with Stevenson on the front foot from the bell. Stevenson landed with the cleaner punches on the two boxers, but did get caught with a few towards the end of the round. Another very close and well-matched contest, difficult to call with the Judges only able to separate the boxers by a split decision.
Winner: Stevenson split decision
57kg Junior – Bout 11 – William McLean (SCO) v James Cleary (IRE)
Round 1 – A blistering pace in the first round, with the Irishman racing into attack. McLean caught him some excellent shots on his way in, but the relentless pace and power punching from Cleary started to take its toll towrds the end of the round with the Scot forced onto the ropes.
Round 2 – A change of tactics from McLean saw him power out the blocks and take the bout to the Irihshman. Cleary who looked to relish the toe to toe encounter soon found his range and the power of his punching saw the referee give the Scot a standing eight count. This seemed to spur Cleary on, who sensed the win and went on another relentless attack, which saw the referee give a second eight count before stopping the contest in favour of the Irishman.
Winner:James Cleary (IRE) TKO2
60kgs – Bout 12 – Shaun Munroe (SCO) v Kieran Molloy (IRE)
Round 1: A fast start from Molloy saw him land with some excellent head to body combinations. Munro got himself settled though and came back with some good shots himself. A very fast-paced opening round, which was difficult to call.
Round 2: Molloy started the 2nd round as he’d started the 1st and took the contest to Munro with carefully selected punches to head and body. Munro stood his ground, but did not throw enough punches to keep the Irishman at bay. A big last round was required from Munro at this stage.
Round 3: Sean Munro came out for the last round like someone who knew this contest was slipping away from him, and really gave it his all. The Scot landed some excellent combinations in the first minute of the round, but the pace of the contest started to take its toll and Molloy started to catch Munro with his long raking combination punches to head and body.
A great effort form Munro, but up against another very talented Irishman.
Winner: Kieran Molloy (IRE) UNANIMOUS
60kgs Junior – Bout 13 – Andrew Tham (Scotland) V Aidan Walsh (Ireland)
Round 1: A cagey start from both boxers as they tried to figure out each other’s styles. Although Tham seemed to land the cleaner shots, it was difficult to separate the boxers in the first round.
Round 2: A scrappy second round saw the taller Irishman choose to box at close range and force Tham onto the back foot for the entire round. Walsh threw more punches, but neither boxer landed any telling punches in the 2nd round. All down to the last round.
Round 3: With both boxers trying so hard to win it made for a scrappy 3rd round. Walsh did land some good clean punches, but there was not much in the way of quality shots from either boxer.
Winner: Aidan Walsh (IRE) UNANIMOUS
63kgs – Bout 13 – Aidan McGlynn (Scotland) V James McDonagh (Ireland)
Round 1: An electric 1st round with McGlynn on the front foot from the first bell. Both boxers locked horns in the centre of the ring and both threw some punishing body shots. McGlynn was the busier and more accurate of the two and looked to have edged the first round.
Round 2: Another very fast paced round with McGlynn forcing his Irish opponent round the ropes and dictating the pace. As the round went on, the Scots punches started to take their toll and McDonagh started to hold more. The stinging body shots and some raking back hands from the Scot were obviously starting to take effect.
Round 3: Another master-class in body punching from Aidan McGlynn, which saw him boss the 3rd round, as he had the first 2. As much as McDonagh did well to trade and take the shots the Scot was throwing, he was well beaten with the faster, more powerful and more accurate McGlynn.
Winner: Aidan McGlynn (SCO) UNANIMOUS
63kgs Junior – Bout 15 – William Hutchinson (Scotland) V John Joyce (Ireland)
Round 1: An almost reluctant start form Scotland’s Hutchinson, up against a very powerful Irishman. As Hutchinson struggled to find his range and timing, Joyce looked to have nicked the first round with some good single shots.
Round 2: A change of tactics in round 2 saw Hutchinson push the Irishman onto the back foot, with great success. It was obvious Joyce was not used to opponents forcing him back, which Hutchinson did and looked to have equalled the bout at one round each.
Round 3: A blistering 3rd round saw Hutchinson again go on the front foot and force his powerful opponent backwards. The Scot was having the better of things for the first minute, with his straight punching. but, Joyce pulled a few clean shots out the bag to force a split decision.
Winner: :William Hutchinson (SCO) SPLIT DECISION
70kgs Junior – Bout 16 – John Docherty (Scotland) V Kevin Kehoe (Ireland)
Round 1: A fasted paced 1st round saw Docherty land with some good clean shots in the first minute. The Irishman did come back into it, once he found his timing and made sure it was close 1st round.
Round 2: Some excellent boxing on the backfoot saw Docherty draw his Irish opponent in and land with cobinations of two’s and three’s. Again Kehoe came back well, but a strong finish to the round by Docherty saw him edge it.
Round 3: An action-packed 3rd round, which saw both boxers give it everything and had most of the crowd on their feet for the duration of the round. Kehoe forced the pace on the front foot and landed some good shots, but Docherty kept his cool and landed his fair share of good shots on the back foot.
Winner: Kevin Kehoe (IRL) MAJORITY
