Scotlands Mark McKeown is the only remaining home nation boxer (Scotland, England and Wales) still competing in the European Youth Championships in Dublin, as he bids for a place in tomorrows Finals .
After an impressive 20-11 victory over AIBA World Championship Silver Medallist Aleko Tchadashvili from Georgia, Mark, who boxes for The Barn ABC in Coatbridge, followed that up by eliminating Kolya Grigoryan of Armenia and Polands Sylwester Kozolwski to take his place in todays Semi Final against Russian Radzhab Butaev.
In what has been an impressive display by the ABS Squad in Dublin; where three Scottish boxers made the Quarter Finals, young McKeown has been the standout performer. Already guaranteed a bronze medal, he will today be aiming to overcome his Russian opponent for a shot at the European title against either Germany or Ukraine in the Saturday showpiece at the National Stadium in Dublin.
Aside from McKeown, the other Scottish boxers have acquitted themselves extremely well against top opposition, overcoming opponents from Slovenia, Belarus and Czech Republic in what has been a successful European Youth Championships journey.
