After the extremely successful Hakija tournament in Bosnia, where Team Scotland topped the medal table with 4 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze, the team then travelled to Serbia to conduct a 5 day training camp in preparation for the Senior European Championships being held in Minsk, Belarus between 30th May and 09th June 2013.
The main focus of the camp, which took place in the Serbian city of Subotica, was to conduct contest standard open sparring, along with gruelling lactate threshold training to ensure the boxers would reach peak physical condition for the European Championships.
Fortunately for Team Scotland, members of the Hungarian national team also attended the camp in addition to the Serbian elite boxers, providing excellent sparring for the 6 Scottish boxers, all of whom had at least 2 different boxers within their weight category.
The majority of the camp took place in a large sports complex which is home to the Serbian boxing club Spartak wolves, and the facilities on offer ensured Team Scotland covered every aspect of the preparation training required.
Utilising the indoor halls to conduct SAQ (Speed, agility & quickness) sessions, along with lactate threshold runs on the purpose built 1km trail surrounding the complex, our Serbian hosts provided every training resource Scotland required in addition to the general boxing club equipment.
With all the hard work now completed, Team Scotland now look forward to travelling to Belarus on Thursday 30th May, to participate in arguably one of the toughest boxing competitions in the International calendar.
Good luck to the 6 Scotland representatives!
