SCOTLAND’S Isa Akram is through to the Semi-Finals of the Socikas International Boxing Tournament with a composed display in Lithuania this afternoon.
The Rob Roy Lightweight’s movement and skills proved to be too much for five-time German champion Anton Kondratev to try and solve as he made it a winning start for Team Scotland in Kaunas.
It was a battle of southpaws in the 60kg Quarter-Final contest, with the Scot boxing on the back foot and looking to catch his opponent from Germany with counters.
A good right uppercut helped Isa on his way to a strong opening round, while his great head movement really standing out in the second, as he caught his opponent with a couple of good straight left-hands.
In the third round the teenager, in his first international tournament as a senior boxer, used great footwork to comfortably outbox Kondratev and take a points decision.
Unfortunately Isa was the only Scottish boxer to win on Day One of the competition, with Team Scotland boxers Luke Bibby, Sam Hickey and Robert McNulty all suffering defeat.
