Boxing Scotland are delighted to share an update on Stephen Simmons’ progress as Apprentice Coach.
The former Scotland and GB International Boxer began his new role with the Governing Body in March of this year as part of the sportscotland Coaching Futures programme.
In that time, Stephen has been providing coaching support to both the Boxing Scotland Elite Boxer Group and Performance Pathway Programme.
“It has been great and I have been learning a lot from the other coaches,” Stephen said.
“From the word go I have been immersed in the High Performance daily training environment.”
Meanwhile, Boxing Scotland Performance Director and Joint National Coach Craig McEvoy said it has been fantastic to have someone of Stephen’s experience on board, with the 37-year-old having represented Scotland in both the 2006 and 2010 Commonwealth Games, securing Bronze in the latter, as well as attending multiple European and World Championship’s.
“We were absolutely delighted to secure our first ever Coaching Futures post this year, and even more delighted that we have got someone of Stephen Simmons caliber to join the coaching team,” Craig added.
“His experience is second to none and he is already thriving in the environment.”
