THE Team Scotland Boxing squad have officially arrived in Birmingham today for the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
The eight boxers arrived at the Welcome Centre to collect their accreditation and will move into the Athletes Village later this afternoon.
The squad have already been in England for one week, as they finished up their training at the home of GB Boxing in Sheffield with their third and final sparring camp, following one in Madrid, Spain and one at the Boxing Scotland High Performance Centre in Glasgow.
The Games will begin on Thursday (July 28th) with the Opening Ceremony at the Alexander Stadium, while the boxing gets underway on Friday (July 29th) at the NEC Arena.
Boxing Scotland Performance Director and Joint National Coach Craig McEvoy said: “We have arrived today at the Welcome Centre in Birmingham and have received our accreditation and are just waiting to go to the Athletes Village.
“We had our final camp this week at GB Boxing where they each had three gym bouts and the final part of the sparring phase with three sparring sessions, which were nice and specific with three different sparring partners for each boxer.
“It was just the right intensity and was a great camp to finish off the final preparations.
“It is just a case now of getting in, getting them settled into Village life and the routine for the tapering phase.
“The draw will be in the middle of next week, and then the boxing starts on Friday.
“All of the boxers are in good form and in a good place.”
