Team Scotland claim four Gold medals at the GB Elite Three Nations Championships

May 28, 2023 By Ben Holme

TEAM Scotland claimed four British Gold medals this afternoon after another successful day at the GB Elite Three Nations Championships.

Perth Railway’s Luke Bibby claimed his second British title in a row, after also winning Light-Welterweight Gold at the event in Cardiff last year, as he defeated Daniel Walshe from Wales.

“The first time was so nice I had to do it twice,” Bibby said.

“Two-time British champion, back to back titles, I’m absolutely buzzing.”

Renfrewshire’s Aaron Cullen also continued his rise through the sport as the teenager won the British Elite Bantamweight title in his debut season as a senior boxer by defeating reigning English 54kg Elite ABA champion Kurt Wiggins.

There was also Gold medals for 2022 Commonwealth Games representative Megan Reid (Leith Victoria) as she beat England’s Terri Stuart in the 63kg Final, and Antonine’s Caitlin Kelly, who out-pointed England’s Kayla Allen in the 70kg Final.

The four Gold medals won at the Magna Science and Adventure Centre in Rotherham mean that it is Team Scotland’s largest Gold medal haul at the British Elite event since 2018.

Unfortunately, Falkirk Phoenix’s Stephanie Kernachan (54kg) and Rob Roy trio Lennon Mulligan (51kg), Isa Akram (60kg) and Harry McGrenra (71kg) all had to settle for Silver medals.

There was also Bronze medals for Lochend duo Saul Sztor (57kg) and Aurel Szilagyi (67kg), J&L’s Niamh Hay (57kg), Newarthill’s Marc Johnstone (75kg) and AAA’s Alex Arthur Jr (80kg) after semi-finals defeats yesterday.
