Team Scotland claim six Gold medals at GB Schools Three Nations Championships

June 18, 2023 By Ben Holme

TEAM Scotland will return North of the border with six Gold medals from the GB Schools Three Nations Championships as we won the majority of our Finals earlier today.

Scotland had faced 11 Finals, all against English opposition, on the final day of the competition being held at the Sport Wales National Centre in Cardiff, Wales.

Antonine’s Adam Gallacher, Meadowbank’s Rubin Clarkson, Southside’s Zain Iqbal, Inverclyde’s Noah Waddell, Hawick’s Rosie Swailes and Keir Hardie’s Connor Carroll were all crowned British Schools champion.

Antonine’s Adam Gallacher once again got Team Scotland’s day off to a great start as last year’s GB Bronze medallist won our opening Final by defeating England’s Mason Watson to become British Schools 36kg champion.

Gallacher was not the only Scot to improve on last year’s GB Schools Championships, which were held in Dundee, as 2022 GB Silver medallists Rubin Clarkson (44kg), Rosie Swailes (51kg) and Connor Carroll (52kg) all went one better and claimed Gold in Cardiff this year.

Inverclyde’s Noah Waddell also claimed Gold in his first British Championships as he won the 50kg GB Final against England’s Albert McCleary, while Southside’s Zain Iqbal is now a two-time GB champion as he beat England’s Danny Lee to add 46kg Gold to the 42kg British title he won 12 months ago.

There were also Silver medals for Antonine’s Ryan Gallacher (42kg), Doonahmers’ Blossom Weir (48kg), Cain’s Danny Murphy (54kg), Southside’s Ava Allison (54kg) and Duries’ Lucas Ewan (57kg).

Forgewood’s John McGee (38kg), Southside’s Michael Campbell (40kg) and Irvine Vineburgh’s Liam Boyd (48kg) all also received a Bronze medal, following Semi-Final defeats to Welsh opposition yesterday.

Today’s results mean that Team Scotland have claimed 20 British Gold medals this season, following the four Elite champions and 10 Gold medals won at the GB Junior and Youth Championships in Motherwell last month.

GB Schools Three Nations Championships, Sunday 18th June Results;

Male 36kg Final – Adam Gallacher (SCO) beat Mason Watson (ENG) via 3-2 split decision.
