Scotland are guaranteed three medals from our Boxers at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi. Josh Taylor, Callum Johnson and Steven Simmons all won their Quarter Final bouts today, to progress into the Semi’s and guarantee at the very least a Bronze medal each.
Josh Taylor beat Kautoa Roddy of Kiribati to progress and will face Lomalito Moala of Tonga in the Semi Final.
Josh barely had to break sweat in his one-sided 10-0 victory over Roddy of Kiribati.
Taylor said he hoped his success would rub off on the Scottish team, who currently do not boast a single member of the Great Britain Olympic podium squad.
“It’s great for Scottish boxing and hopefully it will give us all a lift,” said Taylor.
“We want people to start fearing us instead of seeing us as an easy draw. I’m more focused than ever and I’m going for gold now.”
Callum Johnson Beat England’s Obed Mbwakongo and will face Jermaine Asare of Wales in his Semi Final.
And at heavyweight Stephen Simmon overcame a bloodied nose to see off Samir El-Mais of Canada 7-4 and clinch a semi-final bout with Northern Ireland’s Steven Ward
A massive well done to all three and not forgetting Aston Brown who lost a hard fought Quarter Final to England’s Callum Smith.
Well done boys. An amazing acheivement.
