Amateur Boxing Scotland has three boxers competing today in Belgrade.
First off for Scotland is Scottish Light-Welter Weight Champion, Lewis Benson, who will take on Australia’s Jeff Horn (another of Australia’s London 2012 representatives), in bout six of the afternoon. With Australian’s already eliminating two of our boxers yesterday, Lewis will be hoping to pull one back for the country, and progress to the next round.
Next up, is Scottish Middle Weight Champion, Kieran Smith, who is bout fifteen of the days schedule. Kieran will be boxing Josef Pavlis of the Czech Republic. The Czech will provide a very tough test for one of Scotland’s brightest young talents, but hopefully Kieran can produce the performance required to make the next round.
The last of the Scottish boxers to compete in the tournament, is Scottish Light-Heavy Weight Champion, Brian Forsyth. Brian is relatively inexperienced at ths level, but you can guarantee he will give it everything he has, if his Scottish Championship Final is anything to go by. Brian is up against Enrico Koling of Germany, who is a WSB Boxer, and will be representating Germany at the London 2012 Olymics. This will be a very tough international debut for Brian, but he has the ability, stamina and durability to progress, so let’s hope he does.
The boxing will commence at 4pm UK time, and ABS will publish results as we get them.
Good luck boys.
